Sarah McMurtrie
MSW Intern

Sarah McMurtrie graduated with her Bachelor's degree in International Studies from Virginia Wesleyan College, culminating in her thesis that focused on how Zulu culture adapted to colonization by unique means of preservation.  Following her undergraduate education, she volunteered for two years with Peace Corps Madagascar as an English teacher for middle and high school children in a small Malagasy village.

Sarah is a second year graduate student at Denver University's School of Social Work. She is working on earning her Master's degree in Social Work with a concentration in community practice and a certificate working with the Latino/a population.

Interning for Intercambio de Comunidades was a logical next step for Sarah in that exchange between cultures is an integral part of her personal passion for different cultures as well as part of her professional dedication to respect for multiculturalism. As an intern at Intercambio, Sarah uses her unique skills as a social worker to facilitate relationships between volunteer English teachers and their students. Throughout this year, she will also be working to build a stronger sense of community among students and teachers through intercultural events and activities.
